Beihang University

The birthplace of Bai Yan, a majestic institution of higher learning. As the seasons changed, the journey was arduous. In 1950, the Korean War broke out. On the battlefield of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, there was a significant disparity in air force strength between the enemy and ourselves. The urgent needs of the war propelled the transition of China's aviation industry from repair to manufacturing, and the country "urgently needed to establish an aviation university." In 1951, the state decided to merge the aviation departments of Beiyang University, Xiamen University, and Northwest Institute of Technology into the Department of Aeronautical Engineering at Tsinghua University, establishing the School of Aeronautical Engineering at Tsinghua University; to merge the Department of Aeronautical Engineering at Yunnan University into the Department of Aeronautics at Sichuan University; and to merge the Department of Aeronautics at Southwest Industrial College into the Department of Aeronautical Engineering at the School of Engineering at North China University. In 1952, according to the requirements of the nationwide adjustment of colleges and departments in higher education institutions, Beijing Institute of Aeronautics was established, formed by the merger of the Department of Aeronautics at Beijing Institute of Technology (renamed Beijing Institute of Technology on November 18, 1951, from the School of Engineering at North China University), the School of Aeronautical Engineering at Tsinghua University, and the Department of Aeronautics at Sichuan University. On October 25, 1952, the inaugural meeting of Beijing Institute of Aeronautics was held in the auditorium of Beijing Institute of Technology (formerly the site of the Sino-French University). In 1988, Beijing Institute of Aeronautics was renamed Beihang University (abbreviated as Beihang).
